While we have barely put away the 2025 crop and are still left with all kinds of questions regarding it, I can’t help but start to think about 2026.
Last week the USDA released their baseline projections for 2026, giving some insight into what they expect for planted acres next year. This week, I wanted to look at those acres and what they might mean for the balance sheets as we move ahead. Like similar exercises in the past, we’ll run through what a bearish balance sheet would look like, as well as what it would take to get a neutral outlook and a bullish one.
Of course, with so many moving pieces these numbers are a simple educated guess and are just a tool to provide a broad foundation for what we could be talking about as we start to move through the next year.
