Rain reports in the central part of Brazil in the last 48 hours. Temperatures should rise again, and rain should again concentrate in the South for 7 days. Many reports of improving conditions for Northern states after the 7 last days of lower temperatures and beneficial rains. Producers of WhatsAPP groups that I participate in, still say that there will be crop failure in Mato Grosso and other Northern states, but they recognize that conditions have improved. Live hog futures continue to decline. Today the January contract closed with a drop of 4.6%, the biggest daily drop since December last year. Soybean premiums for the new crop remain volatile, partly reflecting the futures swings, but also due to the weather in Brazil. Premiums on Fob and CFR China rose more than 40 cents per bushel during the week ending 17th, but ended up losing momentum in the last week, even with the accumulated drop of 7 cents for March futures. The weekly farmer selling of soybean reached 900k tons (40 OC/ 60 NC) and 400k tons for corn – both are smaller than the week prior.
